INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION “THE UNIVERSE OF TWINS”
The “Mezey Lajos” Gallery, Euro Foto Art Exhibition Center located on the 2nd floor of the Oradea City Museum section, hosted last weekend the opening of an exceptional international exhibition, organized as an absolute premiere in Romania by the International Association “Euro Foto Art” (AIEFA) in partnership with Summit Agro Romania and the Museum of the Land of Crișuri Oradea – Museum Complex. On the walls of the well-known gallery, 44 large black-and-white and color photographs were installed, created by the photographic artists: Yurko Bakai (UA), Sanjoy Bhattacharya EFIAP, EPSA (IN), Dobán Dorina (UA), Bohdan Nahorniak (UA), Labancz István (RO), Tania Pavlyk (UA), Gheorghe Petrila E.FIAP (RO) and Ștefan Tóth István AFIAP, ESFIAP, about twins from India, Japan, Ukraine, and Hungary. The audience present at the event, among them a group of photographic artists from Debrecen and Nyíregyháza (HU), was welcomed by Dr. Diana Iancu, museographer, who underlined the importance of organizing the international exhibition on the occasion of the World Twins Day. The photographic artist Ștefan Tóth István AFIAP, ESFIAP, president of AIEFA and curator of the international exhibition, presented the context in which, a few decades ago, he discovered the importance of organizing events dedicated to twins. “By organizing this international exhibition, I wanted to bring to the public’s attention the special universe of twins, about which very little has been mentioned for a long time. The project started very slowly, because we did not receive many images of twins. Our salvation was the guest of honor of the exhibition, the renowned photographic artist Benkő Imre from Budapest (https://azopus.hu/alkoto/AL0000035), awarded with the ‘Kossuth’ Prize and the ‘Balázs Béla’ Prize, who sent a representative collection photographed a few decades ago. I would like to underline the contribution of the photographic artist Dorina Dobán from Botfalva (UA), a Reformed priest, who made a great effort to discover twins from Transcarpathia and travel to photograph the unique subjects, despite the fact that the country where she lives is at war. I am glad that I was also able to contribute with a photograph of two twin children in Japan.” At the end of the opening, the president of AIEFA handed the Tomele twin sisters a bouquet of flowers each, as a sign of gratitude for their contribution to the exhibition opening (they were also present in the exhibition through the photographs taken by the photographic artist Gheorghe Petrila EFIAP). During the event, the curator of the exhibition also handed over a photograph exhibited in the exhibition about the twin sisters Ambrus Andrea and Ildikó from Tinca, Bihor County. The musical moments of the opening, held on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at 17:00, were provided by the Tomele twin sisters (Mariana and Simona), originally from Roșia village (located in the north of Țara Beiușului, at the foot of the Pădurea Craiului Mountains), who performed several Romanian folk songs. The international exhibition will remain open to the public until October 1, 2025. It can be visited from Tuesday to Sunday between 10:00 – 18:00. The exhibited works will also be projected on the screens inside the public transport vehicles of Oradea, thanks to the protocol concluded between AIEFA and OTL SA.
